122010 VIOLETS SURGERY (3)

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

When we adopted Violet from SEPRA, we did it knowing that she would need a dental and to have two places removed. Normally this would have been done before she was adopted, but since I am a foster home and since our regular vet is an approved SEPRA vet, we elected to adopt her and then have the surgery. We knew that she had some pretty bad teeth and that the two places on her were probably Mast Cell Tumors. The surgery was really intense. The two places on her required a lot of skin tissue to be removed. My vet is very skilled with her dental training and she said that she’d never seen a dog’s teeth so bad. Poor Violet. I got our patient home and we took care of her through the night. Thankfully, she was doing much better the next day.

Violet-I love you!

Violet
On Monday night, November 22, 2010, I saw her on SouthEast Pug Rescue & Adoption’s site and I knew Violet was perfect for our family.

“Hi, my name is Violet and I am a very sweet girl. I love people!

As you can see, I am a healthy size with a shiny black coat and adorable gray features that highlight my 10 young years. I am very laid back and love to snuggle and stay right next to you wherever you go. I’m not particularly interested in other dogs. Although, I do like to snuggle with my foster’s pugs when they let me. I’m not aggressive and certainly don’t mind sitting back and watching while the other dogs play.

Violet is house trained and will ask out when she needs to go. She cannot go for long periods of time, so someone who is home a lot would make a great forever family for this sweet girl. When Violet came to us, she was having some skin and ear issues, but after some tender loving care and a diet for her sensitive skin, she is doing just fine. Violet has a cyst behind her right front leg and her vet is trying to decide the best course of action for her. It will most likely be removed. Violet also requires daily eye drops to help with keeping her eyes moist.

Violet is such a sweet girl and just needs someone to love her, she will definitely love you back!”

103010 PUGFEST (45)

SouthEast Pug Rescue & Adoption relies on a network of dedicated volunteers to care for pugs while they are waiting on their forever home. Pugfest is just the annual event where everyone can see their hard work in person. My feature pug of the day is Harry Pugalicious. He was adopted from SEPRA and lives the fabulous life of a pug with his sister, Lulu, who was also adopted from SEPRA. Harry is also one of the most handsome pugs ever! I often tell him mom that I’d like Harry to come live with me, but I know that he is happy with his great family.

103010 PUGFEST (31)

SouthEast Pug Rescue & Adoption had their annual Pugfest on October 31-Halloween. Pugfest is their biggest fundraiser of the year. It also brings in people and pugs from all over the southeast and beyond. At last count, I heard there were over 650 pugs in attendance. Each year, they have a rescue parade and the much anticipated costume contest. Our pug friend, Pippa (you’ve probably seen her in my photos before), was dressed up as Nicole “Snooki” from The Jersey Shore. This costume was fantastic complete thigh high boots, long black hair, and a trucker hat. I will go on record to say that this was the most fantastic costume ever!!! By the time that Halloween rolled around, Pippa had already been featured on one of the TV station websites. This is going to be hard to hear, but she did not win anything at Pugfest. Robbed I say! I hope that a year from now we will remember who Snooki was, so Pippa has imortalized her in pug form.

Happy 12th Birthday Baby Girl!

We celebrated Baby Girl’s 12th (yes I said 12th) birthday today with a yummy cake from Bone Appetit Bakery! If you had told me three years ago that she’d make it to her 12th birthday, I would have seriously doubted you. She has made it through dental surgery, stent surgery for her collapsing trachea, back issues, and just general old age. She lives every day like she has us in the palm of her hand, oh wait, she does! She is the tiniest, most demanding pug that I’ve ever known. She bosses us around all the time and for the most part we do whatever she tells us to do. Happy Birthday to our Baby Girl!

102310 BARKTOBERFEST (10)

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

On October 23rd, we were out and about in the Scenic City and guess what? Posha is back! Yes, this Chihuahua is back on the town at Greenlife Grocery’s Barktoberfest! This time, my friend decided to keep her fingers and I ventured into Posha’s domain for a pet. Yes, she bit me, but I was excited that I got to pet her! She is like a furry stuffed sausage. Posha, I love you!

So back to Barktoberfest. My friend’s pug, Pippa, won a costume contest and got a back full of goodies. Lola and I were a little jealous, but since I didn’t even really dress up Lola, I could only blame myself.
