Happy 12th Birthday Baby Girl!

We celebrated Baby Girl’s 12th (yes I said 12th) birthday today with a yummy cake from Bone Appetit Bakery! If you had told me three years ago that she’d make it to her 12th birthday, I would have seriously doubted you. She has made it through dental surgery, stent surgery for her collapsing trachea, back issues, and just general old age. She lives every day like she has us in the palm of her hand, oh wait, she does! She is the tiniest, most demanding pug that I’ve ever known. She bosses us around all the time and for the most part we do whatever she tells us to do. Happy Birthday to our Baby Girl!

Yorkie Angel Patrol Get Together

Today was the Yorkie Angel Patrol Get Together. The best way to describe this group is a collection of pet owners whose beloved pets have been affected by some tragic conditions. These people are dedicated to educating themselves and others about Collapsing Trachea, Liver Shunts, and Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME). Yorkie Angel Patrol is not just for Yorkies; it is for all dogs who suffer from these conditions. It is a source for education, resources, and support. The gathering that took place in Knoxville, TN is a celebration of the memories of those beloved pets lost, the recent successes, and hope for the future.

For those of you who are not aware, Baby Girl came into rescue with Southeast Pug Rescue and Adoption with a Collapsed Trachea. Her airway was constricted by a Grade IV (>75%) collapse which affected her breathing and ultimately her whole body. We were fortunate to have the University of Tennessee Veterinary College so close to us. On May 15, 2008, Baby Girl had a titanium stent placed in her trachea. This procedure literally saved her life. The people who are involved in YAP have been invaluable to me also!

I has been two years to the date from that fateful day that I first laid eyes on Baby Girl. I remember it like it was yesterday! So much has changed in our household over the past two years and I can’t imagine a day without Baby Girl in our lives. Happy Two Year Anniversary Baby Girl or “Baby Squirrel” as we like to call you!

We are so grateful to SEPRA (Southeast Pug Rescue and Adoption) for all of their support for Baby Girl over the past two years. We would also like to say thank you to Yorkie Angel Patrol for all of their on going work on Collapsing Trachea research.

Baby Girl’s 4th Acupuncture Session

Baby Girl went for her 4th acupuncture session (I didn’t take photos at her first session) today. It had been awhile since we had seen Dr. B and I could tell that BG was weaker in the back end. When we first arrived, Dr. B evaluated her reflexes and responses to see how she was doing since her last treatment. Then, the acupuncture needles were inserted in various locations along Baby Girl’s spine. I’ve never had acupuncture myself, but it is apparently VERY stimulating. Baby Girl proceeded to pass gas the entire time. It went from being funny, to embarrassing, to concerning. Dr. B refereed to Baby Girl’s belly as a hot air balloon! LOL!

Purple Pug Party and Penny Fundraiser

Today was Chattanooga Pugs annual Purple Pug Party and Penny Fundraiser for Pug Rescue. Whew, that is a lot of “P”s. Several years ago, Chattanooga’s own Purple Lady came to our Valentine’s Pug Party and we have kept the purple theme ever since. The weather really did not cooperate today though, it was in the mid thirties and there were snow flurries. Not very many people were up to braving that kind of weather. We did have 6 people and 6 pugs at Aunt Sue’s K-9 Bakery. We let the pugs run around and at least burn off a little energy. Today was also a day for people to bring their pennies, nickels, and dimes to support pug rescue. We did manage to raise some money for SouthEast Pug Rescue and Adoption and Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. Both of these organizations help out homeless and needy pugs in the Chattanooga area.

Snow in Tenessee

We got snow and lots of it! Well, it was a lot for Chattanooga, Tennessee. I got home for work and put on my snow boots and put the girls winter coats on so we could go out and play in the snow. I had visions of Lola and Baby Girl romping around in white powdery snow flakes; not so much! Baby Girl would not move from the spot where I set her down in the horribly cold and wet stuff that plagued her paws. Lola did run around for a minute and acted like she was having fun. Then I guess that the reality of the cold set in and she kept running back to the door trying to tell me that she was over this and we needed to go back inside where it was warm. Oh well, they are pugs after all, not sled dogs! And since I did not believe the weatherman, we drank all of the milk. I guess that I’ll have to venture to the store today and hope that there is at least one carton of milk left on the shelves.

It was freezing outside today. No really, at 12:00pm it was only 25 degrees. Have no fear; Chattanooga Pugs were meeting at Bone Appétit so we were toasty warm inside. Every January, Bone Appétit lets us invade their store for our pug gathering. We had a great turn out of people and their pugs.
