020511 PPP FLYER

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

Today was Chattanooga Pug’s annual Purple Pug Penny Party at Aunt Sue’s K-9 Bakery. Aunt Sue’s has been hosting our February pug social for over 4 years now. We take this opportunity each year to collect pennies, nickels, dimes, and dollars for pug rescue. We divide the funds among SouthEast Pug Rescue & Adoption and Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. For the pugs in rescue, literally every dollars helps. Thanks to everyone who came out to support pug rescue.

This year, I took Lola and Violet. This was Violet’s first pug social and I don’t know if she entirely knew what to think about the other pugs running around. She is so quiet and laid back and we had several young pugs there running up and down the aisles.

We had another SEPRA pug who had recently been adopted –Valerie. Valerie has only been with her new family for 6 days. Thank you to her mom & dad for giving her a new forever home.

I use Paul Mitchell hair products and my pugs use John Paul Pet products. While giving the girls a bath, I strategically placed their John Paul Pet oatmeal shampoo & conditioner in the background. Of course, Baby Girl was her usual obstinate self in the sink. Lola acts like I am torturing her. Violet just stands there like an angel and lets me lather her up and condition her down. I was afraid that Peaches would not fit in the sink, but she did and she was a good girl. It was an afternoon of pugs getting their hair “did” and pawdicures.

This was Lola’s second weekend in a row to accompany me for a pug home visit. I am not sure what she did today while I was gone, but by 5:00pm and when it was time for our home visit, she acted like she was exhausted. She wasn’t her normal Lola self and I swear, I had to apologize that she wasn’t being very social. Lola just wanted to sit in my lap. Oh well, I guess it was enough for her to just ride with me. Please adopt, don’t shop!

On any given Saturday morning while I am running around trying to get laundry started, dishes done, making a grocery list, etc; my pugs just lounge around on the couch. On a side note, I got the round dog bed that Baby Girl is sitting in at a dog show about 3 years ago. I bought it because of the cute canine print, but it has been the most covet dog bed by all the pugs. Thankfully, it is small enough that it can go in the washer because it gets a lot of use. We call it Baby Girl’s nest because she looks like a tiny bird sitting in it. Also we refer to her as a baby bird when she is squawking orders at us.

I’d say that Violet has pretty much adapted and adjusted to being a Papa’s Pug. We’ve nick named her “V” or “V1″ or “Big One” -that’s from my husband. One of the funny things that she does is that she’ll climb the 5 stairs from our den to the rest of the house, but refuses to go back down them. I end up carrying her down them. I think she may be playing me for a fool, but that’s okay too. She’s only been with us since November, but I even remember a day without her. Thanks again to SouthEast Pug Rescue & Adoption for bringing Violet into our lives!

Lola’s Day Out

Lola had a big day out on the town today. She & I got to spend some one on one time together. We started off the morning by doing a home visit for a pug rescue. When perspective homes are interested in adopting a pug, they often require a home visit. It isn’t to check for dust bunnies under the beds, but rather to make sure the home is a safe environment for a pug. I always like to take a pug along with me to see how the perspective home interacts with a pug. Lola is my go to gal since Violet is recovering from her dental and Baby Girl is too much to handle. Lola and I also went to PetsMart to get Baby Girl some potty pads. I am so fortunate to spend time with one of my girls!

Voilet’s Second Surgery-take care of your pug’s teeth

Today was Violet’s second surgery for the rest of her dental/extraction to be completed. She has had to have all of her teeth removed from the roots being so infected. When humans go to the dentist, we have x-rays to see if there are cavities or inflammation below the gum. This is what should happen for your canine kids too. A tooth can look white on the top (although this wasn’t the case with Violet, you could see the years of tartar build up), but there could be decay below the gum line. Violet made it through the surgery and was home resting for the evening. Here is my Public Service Announcement: Please brush your dog’s teeth and make sure they have regular veterinarian visits to check their teeth. I know that it is hard to get into a daily habit to brush your dog’s teeth, but you can also provide them with Kongs, knobby chew toys, bully sticks, and rope toys to help aid in the cleaning of their teeth.

011211 DAY 3 OF SNOW (7)

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

We got 8″ of snow this week. Yes, you heard me EIGHT inches! And not only did we get that much snow, but it has stuck around for days. This is day three and it feels like it will never melt. I was walking around the yard today and I could not find my yard pug, but then I saw it’s little face sticking out of the snow. Dear little yard puggie, if you weren’t made of cement and so heavy, I would have tried to dig you out from all the white stuff and bring you inside.
