082111 PUGS (19) MANNY

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

Manny is one of the pugs from the local hoarding situation. When he came to us a couple of weeks ago, he was a skinny, scabby pug. Most of his sores have healed and with the help of good food and supplements his skins is doing so much better. Manny has a great appetite and has already gained some weight. It wasn’t any time at all before someone came forward to adopt him. I know that he’ll live a wonderful life with his new family and pug sister. We’ll miss you Manny!

FAWN FEMALE (4)-Pippa

Originally uploaded by Papa’s Pugs

On August 9th, I got a call from someone that I know regarding 50 pugs that needed homes. She had heard through various sources that these pugs were in a hoarding situation and needed rescue. Needless to say, I put the word out to my pug rescue contacts and went to bed in tears. The next day was a series of phone calls, text messages, and emails. So many local and regional rescue groups stepped in for assistance and to foster the dogs. After it was all said and done, it was only 4 pure bred pugs and the rest were other breeds and mixed breed dogs. One of the pugs went to Atlanta to a rescue group; K-911. SEPRA accepted the other three. Two of the little girls, Etta and Pippa, came to stay with us until we could get them to Alabama into a foster home. Manny was the only boy and he stayed with us for 3 weeks until he was able to get on a transport to Albany, NY. These pugs were remarkably well socialized and wanted so badly to be next to people and receive love and affection. Medically, Manny only suffered from open sores probably due to scratching at fleas. The girls are not so fortunate; all three of them have some back issues that will need to be evaluated. This comes on the heels of another hoarding situation where pugs and Boston Terriers were removed from a property in Georgia. SouthEast Pug Rescue and Adoption took in 4 of the pugs which face months of medical rehabilitation. I’ve seen episodes of animal hoarding on TV, and although horrifying, you are watching it from the comfort of your couch with your animals that are well cared for. In real life, someone has to pick up the pieces and put the dogs back together. If you are aware of a hoarding situation, please contact your local authorities and animal shelter. The sooner; the better. For donations for these pugs and other needy pugs, please visit SouthEast Pug Rescue and Adoption at www.rescuepug.com

Medical Miracle

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

It has been three years since Baby Girl was at the University of Tennessee Small Animal Clinic to receive a titanium trachea stent. The average life expectancy after receiving the stent is 2 years, well, Baby Girl has shown that statistics wrong. This photo was taking in the hotel room the night before we met with the vet staff. I hugged BG tight and just cried that night. I had no idea what the next day would bring for her. It’s been a journey to say the least, but every day is a celebration that she is here with us.

It didn’t take Peaches long to learn that on the weekends, Papa’s pugs get eggs for breakfast. She is very impatient and will bark at me to hurry up! She absolutely cracks me up in that I can just imagine her saying “I’m hungry”!!! Disclaimer for the photo below, that was eggs for all the pugs: Lola, Baby Girl, Violet, and Peaches.

Bruce-get out jail free

Monday, April 11th, 2011

On Saturday, Bruce broke loose from jail. Okay, it was not jail and he didn’t do anything but wag his tail. Volunteers from two states came together to rescue him. Bruce was turned into a local shelter because his family could not afford to take care of him. Sadly he is heart worm positive and the treatment can be very expensive. McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center contacted Southeast Pug Rescue to see if we had a spot for Bruce. So with a lot of emails, a lot of planning, and a lot of miles, Bruce was safely transport to a foster home where he will be loved and cared for until he can get a clean bill of health.

Thanks to Trish, Tori, Susan, and Pat for helping to rescue this guy.

040311 LOLAS BIRTHDAY (94) VIOLET

Let me count the ways that I love Violet..

She has this awesome cobby body that has the cutest wobble when she walks.

She will give me kisses (okay I do put my face in hers so she probably just does that so I’ll leave her alone).

She will take a flying leap into my arms from the top of our 5 stairs to get to her food bowl. It is insane that she won’t go down the 5 stairs, but will climb them just fine. Who cares, I need to get a video of her jumping.

She will lie on her back cuddled up in my arms for hours.

I could go on, but I’ll save more for another post.

040311 LOLAS BIRTHDAY (18) PEACHES

Hey y’all it’s me Peaches. Whew, things have been really busy at the ‘tonk and I have been working myself to the bone. I have even lost some weight on a low carb diet. A couple of people have noticed and said that I look really good (that made me blush). I did spend this past Sunday with my BFFs as it was Lola’s Birthday. We got our hair and nails done and just relaxed. That’s exactly how I like to spend my day off, hanging with the girls. Well, that’s about all for now. XOXO Peaches.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear Lola, Happy Birthday to you! We love you Lola Bug!

Hey everyone, my 7th Birthday was Saturday, but my mom was too busy so we had to wait until Sunday to celebrate. I got my very own candle that looked like a cake. I sniffed it, but did not try to eat it. The best part was that I got a bone with my name on it written in purple icing. I was nice and let Peaches have some and she tried to hog the whole thing. My sisters and I got to play outside since the weather was so nice. My mom did give us a bath, which was really not my idea of a fun party. I can’t wait to see what this year brings. Love, Lola

I can’t get enough of Peaches!

It’s been three years since that fateful day when I went to pick up Baby Girl. For those of you who aren’t familiar with her story, she was an owner surrender into rescue. I drove to meet the family and when I got there, I saw the tiniest pug sitting in the back seat. She may have been small, but she made up for it in sass. The family was really sad that they had to give her up, but she was too sick for them. From that day on, she has made a huge impact in our lives. We love you Baby Girl!!!

Please excuse the food on her nose, face, and ears. She loves to eat!
