Today, Victoria Stilwell was at McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center talking about positive reinforcement dog training. She is an amazing speaker, trainer, and advocate. She also did a book signing-that’s me in the photo with her!

You can click on the photo and it will take you to my flickr page with additional photos.

I guess it is a good thing that I am so far behind in my blogging because I got my mom one of these sculptures for Christmas (hers was of a cat) so I really could not “advertise” what I had gotten her back in October. But anyway…a friend of mine and I went to the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center’s Paws Around the World event. It was very nice and worth every center for the price of a ticket. They have fabulous buffet tables set up with different themes of food. A local artist had created these metal sculptures as center pieces on each table. You could “adopt” a dog or a cat and the money went for a good cause-real dogs and cats that need homes. The real center of attention was the guest speaker, Victoria Stilwell from “It’s Me or the Dog” television show. She is well known positive reinforcement dog trainer, but she is also an advocate for animal welfare. More about Victoria Stilwell in the next post…

See this cute little Chihuahua? We met her at The Humane Education Society’s Paws in the Park. Her name is Posha, my friend and I are in love with her. Her owner warned us that she is very protective and will bite you, expecially when noshing on a yummy treat. My friend still pet her, and yes Posha bit her. I think there might be something wrong with us when we will forgo all common sense just to pet a cute dog.

Doggie Paddle at Warner Park

Yes, the dogs can go in the pool! I think that this was our 3rd or 4th year for Doggie Paddle at Warner Park. On the last day of the season, Warner Park opens the pool to dogs and their owners to come swimming. There is a small admission fee and all the proceeds go to The McKamey Care & Adoption Center. This year Lola and I went to enjoy some sun and then cool off in the water. I will readily admit that Lola does not love it, but it is fun for me to take her so she endures it.

Each year, Keller Williams Realty organizes a benefit for The Humane Education Society-Paws for the Cause. This year, it was held at The Mill and was a great event. My husband’s company, Papa Services, sponsored a table and we invited some of our animal friends to join us. The event raises money through corporate sponsors, table sponsors, and a great silent auction. There was food, drinks, and entertainment. We really enjoy the event and helping out HES who does so much for the animals of Hamilton County.

Sally’s New Leash on Life

It is December and I am just now getting caught up on my blog. I did want to go back and share some of this information from the past, well, 6 months. As some of you may remember that Lola took Basic Obedience at Play Dog Excellent. Sally was one of Lola’s classmates. A very nice lady brought Sally each week to class and worked diligently with her. I will say that hands down, Sally was the most well behaved dog in our class. But this lady was not Sally’s mom, but a volunteer. You see, Sally had no home; she was living at Wally’s Friends hoping for a home and a family. A volunteer saw potential in Sally and spent her time and effort to bring Sally to these classes so that Sally would have a better chance at finding a home. And it worked! By the end of our training classes, it was announced on graduation night that Sally had a home. I say all of this to give credit to Wally’s Friends and all the volunteers out there who are making a difference in animal’s lives one dog at a time.
